About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will follow a comprehensive training roadmap to gain experience with store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by immersing you in pharmacy team workflows and daily operations.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and required activities.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and workflow procedures at all workstations.
- Provide service that exceeds patient expectations by showing empathy and care.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities, such as processing deliveries and cycle counts.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Obtain Technician Immunizer status through required training and licensure.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Acceptance into, or active enrollment in, an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Capacity to complete required training within designated timeframes.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between duties, and confirm label accuracy.
- Proficiency in using math to solve pharmacy-related problems.
- Skill in identifying challenging interactions and choosing the best course of action.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, reach, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs.
