About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education into real-world practice to prepare for a Pharmacist role. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap that covers store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient prescription fulfillment while developing your professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and care during interactions, including at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit medical history information under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details as allowed by regulation.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory tasks such as putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Deliver patient health care services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Obtain Technician Immunizer status through required training and licensure.
- Maintain flexibility for scheduling and travel to other locations within the market as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot between duties, and ensure label accuracy for patient safety.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and the ability to explain information to patients.
- Mathematical reasoning skills to calculate dosages and supply needs.
- Ability to identify and resolve challenging patient or colleague interactions.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing or reaching.
