About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will complete a comprehensive training roadmap designed to prepare you for future responsibilities as a Pharmacist. This role involves working under the direction of a preceptor to gain experience with store, district, and regional operations while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering safe and accurate patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by offering empathy and care during interactions.
- Counsel patients and field medical questions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and facilitate medication changes where allowed.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Perform basic inventory activities, such as putting away deliveries and completing cycle counts.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies regarding patient safety, privacy, and controlled substances.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted.
- Educate patients about vaccines and monitor for adverse reactions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- At least 1 year of work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to concentrate on tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to pivot quickly between tasks and solve problems using mathematical reasoning.
- Ability to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
