About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role provides an overview of store, district, and regional operations while preparing you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. You will contribute to a safe and inclusive team environment while assisting in the delivery of patient care.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Follow company standard operating procedures at every workstation to support pharmacists and technicians.
- Provide caring service to patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
- Offer to counsel patients and field medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and clarify details with prescribers as allowed by regulation.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to team members.
- Complete basic inventory tasks such as cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and processing medication deliveries.
- Deliver health care services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted by law.
- Support immunization efforts by educating patients, monitoring for adverse reactions, and documenting patient information.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.
- Capacity to travel to other stores within the market to meet business needs.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to use math to solve pharmacy-related problems.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between responsibilities, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing or reaching.
