About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will bridge the gap between your pharmacy school education and real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience with store, district, and regional operations. This role is designed to prepare you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by immersing you in daily pharmacy workflows and team collaboration.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy teams to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow standard operating procedures and pharmacy workflow protocols at all workstations.
- Provide caring service to patients, field medical questions, and assist with patient history collection.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and coordinate with prescribers to clarify or change medication orders.
- Complete inventory tasks, such as managing deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Offer immunizations and other health services, including completing the necessary training to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
- Mentor and provide feedback to pharmacy team members to share best practices.
- Maintain flexibility in scheduling and travel to other store locations in the market as business needs require.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Strong mathematical reasoning to calculate dosages and supply needs.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot between duties quickly, and ensure label accuracy.
- Active listening skills and the ability to understand and respond to patient needs.
- Capacity to lift up to 20 lbs and remain mobile for extended periods.
- Willingness to become immunization certified.
