About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role provides an overview of store, district, and regional operations while you prepare for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. You will assist the team to ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly and patients receive accurate, timely care.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations.
- Ensure prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Provide caring service and demonstrate empathy in all interactions with patients and colleagues.
- Offer immunizations and other health services to patients.
- Counsel patients and field medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and facilitate medication changes where allowed.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities, including cycle counts and returns.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles regarding patient privacy and security.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
- Capability to concentrate on tasks, pivot between responsibilities, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Strong mathematical skills for problem-solving, such as calculating dosages and day supplies.
- Ability to remain upright and mobile for extended periods.
- Willingness to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
