About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply didactic learning from pharmacy school into real-world practice to prepare for a Pharmacist role. You will complete a comprehensive training roadmap, including Key Learning Experiences (KLEs), to gain an overview of store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams while developing your own clinical and technical skills.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service and contribute to positive patient experiences with empathy.
- Offer to counsel and field medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and call them to clarify or facilitate changes.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and putting away deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Obtain Technician Immunizer status, educate patients about vaccines, and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies regarding patient privacy and safety.
- Travel to other stores in the market to work shifts as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or acceptance to an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- 1+ years of work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Strong verbal and written communication, active listening, and problem resolution skills.
- Mathematical reasoning skills for prescription calculations.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between duties, and confirm prescription accuracy.
