About the role#
This internship provides a structured path for foreign-trained pharmacists to complete their required US internship hours. You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist in a retail setting. The program is designed to build your knowledge, skills, and abilities to help you prepare for pharmacist licensure exams. You are expected to complete all required hours within 18 months and obtain your pharmacist license within 120 days of finishing your internship.
What you'll do#
- Process prescriptions, including translating SIG codes, selecting products, counting and measuring drugs, and labeling.
- Support the supervising pharmacist in dispensing drugs, reviewing prescriptions, and monitoring compliance.
- Lead and manage patient care programs to help customers manage their health.
- Coordinate the training and development of pharmacy support staff.
- Maintain customer and patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and company standards.
- Assist customers with questions and concerns in-store and at the drive-thru window.
- Resolve third-party rejections and handle manual claim forms.
What you'll need#
- A Doctorate (PharmD) or equivalent pharmacist degree from a non-US accredited school of pharmacy.
- Successful completion of the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- An active pharmacy intern license in the state where the district is located.
- Ability to work a schedule that includes nights and weekends.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 20 lbs occasionally.
