About the role#
This internship supports the Structural Engineering team at Cushing Terrell. You will work on real client projects while building a foundation in engineering principles and code requirements. This is an on-site position where you will gain exposure to various building types, including education, commercial, and healthcare projects.
What you'll do#
- Develop calculations, plans, and details for an example building under the guidance of structural engineers.
- Complete twelve weekly learning modules taught by engineers across the firm.
- Work with engineering teams on active project assignments.
- Build your understanding of lateral systems and load paths.
- Collaborate with other interns and engineering staff.
- Attend site visits with project leads when opportunities allow.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least 3 years of a structural or civil engineering undergraduate program.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit.
- Proficiency with Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Exposure to lateral systems or load path analysis is preferred.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software such as RISA, RAM Structural System, ETABS, SAP2000, Enercalc, or TEDDS is a plus.
- Interest in seismic engineering or historic retrofits.
- Familiarity with mass timber, tilt-up concrete, or material handling and racking projects.

- Location: Portland, Oregon.
- Employment type: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $21.00 to $26.00 per hour, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
- Work modality: On-site.
