About the role#
Covia is hiring an Operations Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a paid, part-time position where you will learn the daily aspects of running a mineral processing plant. You will work alongside staff to solve technical problems and contribute to an assigned project that benefits the operation.
What you'll do#
- Learn and follow safety principles, including MSHA regulations, industrial hygiene, and workplace inspections.
- Partner with the Mine Superintendent to understand drilling, blasting, haulage, surveying, and sampling.
- Work with the Plant Superintendent to learn about grinding, flotation, drying, screening, and loading.
- Collaborate with the Quality Control Supervisor on sampling, data management, and continuous improvement.
- Assist the Environmental Supervisor with permitting, regulatory reporting, and reclamation.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor to learn about preventative maintenance, purchasing, and scheduling.
- Support salaried staff with technical projects and other assigned duties.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Mining Engineering, or a related field.
- You have an interest in building a career in Operations.
- You possess strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- You can think logically and share your ideas with others.
- You are willing to engage with a diverse team.
- You have analytical and business skills.

- This internship is on-site and runs from May 17, 2027, to August 7, 2027.
- Available locations include Marston, NC; Portage, WI; Wedron, IL; Fort Smith, AR; Roff, OK; Elco, IL; and Thompson, OH.
