About the role#
As an Optical Metrology Engineering Intern, you will work with the Advanced Optics team to design, analyze, and build high-precision opto-mechanical systems. This role focuses on the development of custom systems and hyperspectral imaging technology. You will contribute to the development of testing approaches and instrumentation throughout the summer program.
What you'll do#
- Work within the optical metrology team to engineer and build opto-mechanical and hyperspectral imaging systems.
- Develop testing approaches and instrumentation for new projects.
- Design prototype test systems and perform proof of principle testing to validate metrology methods.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers on product development.
- Use experimentation to build process knowledge.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Optics degree program or a related discipline with a concentration in Optics or hyperspectral imaging.
- A graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Basic understanding of optical systems and metrology.
- Working knowledge of MatLab, Python, or Excel.
- Experience with interferometry, MTF, and other optical metrology instruments.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Technical curiosity and a desire to develop skills in precision engineering.
- Interest in pursuing full-time opportunities with Corning after graduation.

- Location: Fairport, New York.
- Term: 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May through August).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $1,635.00 to $3,185.00 biweekly.
