About the role#
As a Mechanical Design Intern in Keene, New Hampshire, you will join the Advanced Optics Aerospace and Defense engineering team. You will support the design, analysis, and manufacturing of high-precision opto-mechanical systems. This role involves working alongside multi-disciplinary teams to develop, engineer, build, and test new products.
What you'll do#
- Support the full product development lifecycle for opto-mechanical systems.
- Develop and engineer new products within project teams.
- Build and test prototypes to validate design approaches.
- Use experimentation to develop process knowledge.
- Perform proof of principle testing.
- Interact with team members ranging from production technicians to senior leadership.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design, fabrication, and assembly techniques.
- Experience with 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Working knowledge of analysis tools like MatLab or Excel.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- High level of technical curiosity and attention to detail.
- Interest in future full-time employment at Corning.

- Term: 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
- Modality: This is an on-site, full-time, paid internship.
