    About the role#

    This co-op position supports technology development within the telecommunications field. You will apply engineering principles to design, build, and evaluate prototype products, such as fiber optic connectors and enclosures. You will work with technologies including plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, rapid prototyping, and optical design while collaborating across project teams to meet technical requirements.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform 2D and 3D CAD design for new components and assemblies.
    • Prototype and evaluate new components.
    • Lead small projects of limited scope and manage timelines to achieve objectives.
    • Coordinate, plan, and lead experiments, using statistical tools to analyze results.
    • Prepare oral and written reports summarizing test results and conclusions for technical audiences in Development, Engineering, and Operations.
    • Engage with project teams and share ideas while incorporating feedback from technical experts.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a BS or MS program in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
    • Completion of first and second-year engineering coursework.
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD design software.
    • Creativity in problem-solving, experimental design, and results analysis.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively.
    • Ability to work with your hands to build prototypes and test systems.
    • Preferred: Experience with Creo or Unigraphics NX, PLM software (Windchill or eNovia), and laboratory experience using lathes, mills, and hand tools.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Austin, Texas.
    • Term: Summer 2026.
    • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.).
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: Paid position ($1,635.00 – $3,185.00 biweekly, based on location and year in school).
    • Note: This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
