About the role#
This co-op position supports technology development in the telecommunications field, specifically focusing on fiber optic connectors and enclosures. You will use engineering principles to design, build, and evaluate prototype products using technologies such as plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and rapid prototyping.
What you'll do#
- Support technology development by designing, building, and evaluating prototype products.
- Lead small projects of limited scope and manage priorities to meet objectives within the assignment timeline.
- Coordinate, plan, and lead experiments, using engineering principles and statistical tools to analyze results.
- Prepare oral and written reports summarizing test results and conclusions for technical audiences in Development, Engineering, and Operations.
- Perform 2D and 3D CAD design of new components and assemblies.
- Actively engage with cross-functional project teams to solve problems and achieve project goals.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a BS or MS program in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, with first and second-year studies completed.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information effectively.
- Creativity in problem-solving, experimental design, and results analysis.
- Ability to work with your hands to build prototypes and test systems.
- Desired skills include experience with CAD software (Creo or Unigraphics NX), PLM software (Windchill or eNovia), and hands-on laboratory experience with lathes, mills, and hand tools.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $1,635.00 to $3,185.00 biweekly, determined by geographic location, position nature, and year in school.
