About the role#
This Summer 2026 co-op position supports technology development within the telecommunications field. You will apply engineering principles to design, build, and evaluate prototype products such as fiber optic connectors and enclosures. The role involves working with technologies including plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, rapid prototyping, and optical design while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
What you'll do#
- Perform 2D and 3D CAD design for new components and assemblies.
- Prototype and evaluate new components.
- Coordinate, plan, and lead experiments, analyzing results using engineering principles and statistical tools.
- Lead small projects of limited scope and manage timelines to meet objectives.
- Prepare oral and written reports summarizing test results and conclusions for technical audiences in Development, Engineering, and Operations.
- Engage actively within project teams and across project boundaries to achieve goals.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a BS or MS program for Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- Completion of first and second year engineering studies.
- Ability to work with your hands to build prototype products and test systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information effectively.
- Proficiency in MS Office programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with CAD design software is required, with preference given to candidates familiar with Creo or Unigraphics NX.
- Experience with PLM software such as Windchill or eNovia and hands-on laboratory experience with lathes, mills, and hand tools are considered assets.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Term: Summer 2026.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $1,635.00 to $3,185.00 biweekly, depending on year in school and location.
