About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Summer 2026 co-op position located in Austin, Texas. You will support technology development in the telecommunications field, focusing on fiber optic connectors and enclosures. You will work with technologies including plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, rapid prototyping, and optical design.
What you'll do#
- Use engineering principles to design, build, and evaluate prototype products.
- Perform 2D and 3D CAD design of new components and assemblies.
- Lead small projects of limited scope and manage timelines to achieve objectives.
- Coordinate, plan, and lead experiments, analyzing results using engineering principles and statistical tools.
- Prepare oral and written reports to summarize test results and key conclusions for technical audiences in Development, Engineering, and Operations.
- Engage with cross-functional project teams to solve problems and meet project requirements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a BS or MS program in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- Completion of first and second-year engineering coursework.
- Ability to perform hands-on work building prototypes and testing systems.
- Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD design software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present technical information effectively.
- Desired experience includes using Creo or Unigraphics NX, PLM software like Windchill or eNovia, and laboratory experience with lathes, mills, and hand tools.
