    About the role#

    Corning is seeking a Controls Engineer Intern to support the design, build, and testing of automation equipment. Working under the guidance of a controls engineer, you will gain hands-on experience in controls hardware, HMI and PLC development, equipment testing, and industrial safety.

    What you'll do#

    • Participate in supervised equipment troubleshooting, debugging, I/O checkout, testing, and commissioning.
    • Program and debug PLCs and HMIs.
    • Assist with wiring, assembly, and layout design.
    • Champion a safe working environment in alignment with company safety standards.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
    • Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
    • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, including circuits, electrical machinery, and machine safety.
    • Familiarity with hand tools, multimeters, and standard electrical test equipment.
    • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Familiarity with PLC hardware or programming.
    • Exposure to AutoCAD Electrical or other electrical CAD software.
    • Coursework or project experience with programming languages such as C#, C++, or Python.
    • Awareness of industrial communication networks such as EtherCAT or EtherNet/IP.
    • Basic awareness of electrical codes, machine safety concepts, lockout/tagout, and industrial safety practices.
    • Interest in working for Corning after graduation if presented with a full-time opportunity.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Hickory, North Carolina.
    • Term: 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
    • Work Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time internship.
    • Compensation: $1,635.00 to $3,185.00 biweekly, based on location, position, and year in school.
    • Sponsorship: This position does not support immigration sponsorship.
