About the role#
The City of Starkville is hiring a Student Intern for the Utilities department during the Fall 2026 term. This role supports utility-related construction, maintenance, and facility projects. You will assist with planning, scheduling, and executing work while ensuring departmental policies are followed.
What you'll do#
- Inspect construction sites to assess conditions and identify solutions.
- Manage time and priorities to complete projects independently.
- Coordinate with supervisors on scheduling, material purchases, and project closeout.
- Operate and maintain various landscape, facility, and construction equipment.
- Document work progress through notes, photos, and daily reports.
- Initiate requisitions to obtain necessary project supplies.
- Assist with troubleshooting customer issues and provide quality service.
- Establish effective working relationships with city employees, consultants, and the public.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in coursework related to the field.
- A GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Relevant experience operating maintenance or construction equipment.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work up to 20 hours per week during the school term.
