About the role#
CHS Inc. is hiring a Process Engineer Intern for our refinery in Laurel, Montana. You will work under the direction of senior engineering mentors to support the operation of a complex petroleum refinery. This is a full-time, paid summer 2026 internship.
What you'll do#
- Develop and maintain mass and energy balances around process units.
- Troubleshoot, evaluate, and specify equipment related to heat transfer, separations, and fluid dynamics.
- Scope and screen solutions to improve safety, reliability, product yield, and operability.
- Assist with capital project development to implement identified solutions.
- Maintain process safety information such as PFDs, P&IDs, and MOCs.
- Participate in compliance with OSHA PSM standards and the site Mechanical Integrity Program.
- Perform statistical analysis and basic calculations using laboratory and process data.
What you'll need#
- Completion of your Sophomore year in Chemical Engineering at an accredited program.
- Cumulative GPA of 2.6 or better.
- Strong analytical skills and a strong work ethic.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Completion of your Junior year and a 3.0 GPA are preferred.
- Experience with PIPE-FLO, Aspen HYSIS, Visual Basic, or database programs is a plus.
