About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in grain origination and agronomy operations. You will work alongside a full-time Grain Originator to engage with local producers, secure grain, and develop marketing strategies. This is a paid, full-time position based in Mitchell, South Dakota, spanning the winter and summer terms of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Procure grain from local producers and call on new accounts.
- Update producers on market trends, grain quotes, and marketing plans.
- Prepare and type purchasing contracts.
- Assist with rail billing and grain sales settlements.
- Coordinate with elevator and office staff to manage grain flow.
- Provide customer service to patrons.
- Learn agronomy skills including crop scouting, nutrient products, and crop protection.
- Perform agronomy and seed operations while maintaining inventory quality.
- Conduct facility cleaning, record keeping, and equipment maintenance for items like conveyors, sprayers, and trucks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Agriculture-related degree program such as Ag Business or Crop Science.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
- Previous experience in agriculture, crops, or grain is helpful.
- Prior internship experience is preferred but not required.
