About the role#
We are looking for an Agent Engineering Intern to build agent-driven workflows for our product. You will own a specific workflow and move it from an ambiguous problem to a reliable, working product. This is an applied engineering role focused on software fundamentals and hands-on ownership. You will work directly with engineers and domain experts to demonstrate progress and make scope decisions.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement agent workflows with explicit state, task decomposition, tool use, and typed outputs.
- Build retrieval and citation paths to ground outputs in source evidence.
- Add evaluation, tracing, retries, observability, and recovery behavior for multi-step execution.
- Build the backend services, data models, APIs, and product surfaces needed to make workflows useful.
- Test agent behavior against realistic success cases, failure cases, and incomplete evidence.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong programming fundamentals and experience building a substantial software project.
- Hands-on experience building a nontrivial agent, retrieval system, tool-using workflow, or multi-step automation system.
- Ability to reason about state, failure modes, grounding, evaluation, and engineering tradeoffs.
- Experience with Python, FastAPI, Postgres, agent frameworks, or vector databases is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is fully on-site in Los Altos, California.
- The position is paid at $35 to $55 per hour.
- Academic-term interns must commit to at least 20 hours per week.
- Summer interns should be available for a full-time commitment.
