About the role#
This externship program provides DVM students with hands-on experience in a small animal emergency practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice problem-solving, technical, and communication skills. The program is designed to support your clinical preparation and help you transition into practice after graduation. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and evaluates your performance based on your college program requirements.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations under veterinary supervision.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in managing patient care.
- Provide wellness care and practice client communication.
- Produce accurate medical records (SOAPs) within daily practice time limits.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act and the required scope of duties under supervision.
- Ability to maintain professional conduct and dress in accordance with team expectations.
Location & details#
- Location: Boca Raton, Florida.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible rotations ranging from two to eight weeks, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
