About the role#
Calusa Veterinary Center offers an externship program for veterinary students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program is designed to help you prepare for life after graduation by working alongside our veterinary team. You will be assigned a mentor to help you meet the learning objectives defined by your college or your own personal goals. We provide a stipend of $250 per week for participants.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily caseload of our practice. Under the supervision of your mentor, you will:
- Gather patient histories.
- Perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery.
- Assist in managing medical cases.
- Provide wellness care.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Polish technical skills.
- Write medical records and SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Professional behavior and attire at all times.
