About the role#
Brightstar.AI is hiring an Applied AI Engineer Intern to join our AI Product and Engineering team. This role functions as an external research affiliate and Think Tank contributor. You will bridge academic research with hands-on engineering to build evaluation environments, automated raters, and diagnostic tools. Your work will determine if our agents are reliable for use by operators, executives, and investors. You will work under faculty direction or as a recent graduate to bring academic rigor to our proprietary AI systems, specifically focusing on the AI Twin Board project.
What you'll do#
- Design and scale realistic agent environments and task suites for workflows like board-level deliberation and research synthesis.
- Develop agentic LLM judges and calibrate them against human expert evaluations.
- Benchmark our agents against leading frontier models.
- Build trajectory-analysis frameworks to diagnose agent failure modes such as hallucinations, persona drift, or brittle tool execution.
- Enable agents to generate their own verifiers and test cases.
- Convert multi-turn interaction trajectories into datasets and reward signals for fine-tuning.
- Contribute research perspectives to the Brightstar.AI Think Tank through weekly reviews.
- Interpret technical developments and academic papers for business and investment audiences.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Masters or PhD program, or status as a postdoctoral or early-career researcher in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
- Affiliation with a South Florida university under faculty supervision, or recent graduate status.
- 1 year of research or professional experience with LLMs or Agents.
- 2 years of experience with machine learning and deep learning.
- Proficiency in software engineering and cloud-based development.
- Experience with agent builders.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical executive audiences.
- In-depth knowledge of machine learning algorithms.
- Hands-on experience with LLM evaluation systems, multi-agent orchestration, and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Active research or publications in reasoning systems, model behavior, or AI safety.
