About the role#
We are seeking a hands-on Field Operations Intern to join our team at our test farm in Davis, California. This role works alongside field engineers and robotics developers to run daily testing, troubleshoot equipment, and maintain autonomous agricultural machinery in real-world conditions.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the daily setup, staging, operation, and field testing of autonomous vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and ready testing environment.
- Manage equipment staging and transport components between facilities and test plots.
- Execute structured test plans to evaluate hardware, software, machine vision sensors, and overall system performance.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software issues on test machinery and perform routine hardware maintenance.
- Collect, log, and document test run results, system issues, and performance metrics.
- Maintain test farm inventory and ensure tools are properly organized and calibrated.
- Work with field operations, hardware, and software engineering teams to share on-the-ground observations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Ag Systems Technology, Agronomy, or a related technical field.
- Experience working with mechanical tools, basic electronics, or outdoor machinery.
- A methodical approach to troubleshooting equipment involving integrated hardware and software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying seasonal weather conditions.
- Ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- A valid driver's license.
