About the role#
As a Flight Test Engineer Intern, you will join the Flight Operations group at the Bombardier Flight Test Center in Wichita. You will work closely with senior engineers to test and certify aircraft. This role requires you to fly on test missions as a crewmember alongside Test Pilots. You will operate experimental equipment and record test results. The onboard environment can be physically demanding, involving exposure to turbulence, low cabin pressures, and temperature variations. This is a full-time, on-site internship for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist with test planning, readiness, execution, and reporting.
- Fly onboard experimental aircraft as a crewmember.
- Operate cabin experimental provisions and mission-specific test instrumentation.
- Conduct tests and record flight data.
- Coordinate testing activities with engineering, maintenance, and project management teams.
- Write and review test plans, instructions, test limitations, and post-flight reports.
- Coordinate the configuration of test aircraft and experimental equipment.
- Design and develop safety-critical real-time data displays and derived parameters.
- Comply with safety protocols, risk mitigation procedures, and FAA and Transport Canada regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage large quantities of data.
- Proficiency with a variety of IT tools and equipment.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively across different departments.
- Previous flying experience as a pilot or crew member is a plus.
- Experience with programming for automation and workload reduction is an asset.
