About the role#
We are looking for students to join our team as Biology Lab Assistants. This role supports the College of Arts and Science through four specific tracks: General Biology, Serpentarium, Greenhouse, or Spider Lab. Please specify your preferred specialization when you apply.
What you'll do#
General responsibilities include preparing reagents and supplies for courses, setting up and tearing down labs, and maintaining a clean environment. You will also monitor the science building and enforce student life policies. Depending on your assigned track, you may also perform the following duties:
- Serpentarium: Clean enclosures, prepare specialized diets, monitor life support systems, track animal health records, administer medications, manage egg incubation, and lead educational tours.
- Greenhouse: Monitor plant conditions, water and weed beds, mow and trim exterior areas, perform pest surveillance and treatment, and assist with facility maintenance.
- Spider Lab: Feed and water arachnids and feeder insects, clean cages, remove molts, and optionally assist with spider social acclimatization.
What you'll need#
- You must be a student currently enrolled at Bob Jones University.
- Preference is given to students in Biology, Premed/pre-dent, or Biochemistry and Molecular Biology programs. Students in other Natural Sciences or Science Education programs are also considered.
- Ability to perform basic laboratory techniques with accuracy.
- Strong leadership or collaborative skills.
- For the Serpentarium role, preference is given to students in the Zoo and Wildlife Biology track. You must be comfortable working with reptiles.
- You must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in varying indoor and outdoor climates.

- This is an on-site, part-time position located in Greenville, South Carolina.
- The role operates on a rolling basis.
