About the role#
The Actuarial Summer Intern reports to an Actuarial Manager. You will gain a deep understanding of health care industry practices, develop technical skills, and contribute to models and exhibits that increase efficiency. This 10-week program includes a curriculum focused on leadership development and exposure to the healthcare industry. You will participate in impactful projects, attend employee events, and engage in networking opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Support analytics to optimize membership, healthcare costs, and revenue.
- Develop tools and exhibits to improve marketability.
- Learn or improve coding languages as necessary.
- Support analytics for network configuration scenarios and provider contract negotiation.
- Develop a deep understanding of healthcare provider reimbursement structures.
- Participate in the industry movement toward value-based care.
- Gain an understanding of how finance work connects to the company mission.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or Actuarial Science.
- Serious interest in an actuarial career with at least one actuarial exam completed prior to May 2027.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Financial acumen and the ability to synthesize data into insights or reporting.
- Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Preferred: 1-2 years of related professional experience, project work, or coursework.

- Location: Long Beach, California.
- Term: Summer 2027 (10 weeks).
- Modality: Hybrid (typically two days per week in-office).
- Compensation: $25.00 per hour for undergraduates; $30.00 per hour for graduate students.
