About the role#
This position supports students with a background in foster care. You will work within the Disability Services Office to help these students navigate campus life, access benefits, and utilize state tuition and fee waivers. You will report to the LPC Liaison and participate in a pilot program to test the effectiveness of the peer coaching model.
What you'll do#
- Reach out to and engage students with experience in the foster care system.
- Provide individual support and help students connect with campus and community resources.
- Assist in assessing student needs and eligibility for specific services.
- Track project data and report on student touchpoints.
- Manage a simple budget for student programming and engagement activities.
- Attend scheduled meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
- Document your work as part of the peer coaching pilot program.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as at least a half-time student at Blinn College.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and public relations abilities.
- Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new software.
- Capability to work effectively in a team and handle remote work tasks.
- A dependable and self-motivated work ethic.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and plan ahead.
- Lived experience in the foster care system is preferred for this role.
Location & details#
- Location: Bryan, Texas.
- Schedule: Part-time, maximum of 19 hours per week.
- Modality: This position involves both on-site and remote work.
- Term: Employment is on a semester-by-semester basis.
