About the role#
This summer internship offers an opportunity to explore the role of patient engagement within a biotechnology company. You will work with cross-functional partners and non-profit patient organizations to identify opportunities that support patient communities. You will grow your research, communication, and strategic thinking skills while gaining an understanding of how to translate patient voices into meaningful change.
What you'll do#
- Support initiatives with local, national, and international patient organizations.
- Assist with streamlining inquiries between internal colleagues and patient organizations.
- Identify new patient organizations and collaboration opportunities.
- Assist with the development of patient advisory boards and councils.
- Coordinate company participation in conferences, fundraising events, and awareness campaigns.
- Develop KPIs, systems, and programs to measure the impact of the Patient Engagement team.
- Work with Corporate Communications to amplify engagement activities.
- Represent the team at meetings with internal stakeholders and document action items.
- Support Veeva submissions, manage the advocacy calendar, and capture meeting minutes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in public health, business administration, non-profit management, social work, public policy, pre-med, nursing, health communications, or a related field.
- A minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Familiarity with non-profit organization dynamics and an interest in rare disease and drug development.
- Experience or interest in event and program planning.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter and flex outside the prescribed role.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
- A background in patient support activities is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid 12-week internship for Summer 2027.
- The role is hybrid, based in Durham, North Carolina. Interns are expected to be in the office at least three days per week.
