About the role#
This summer internship provides students with hands-on experience within the BHE corporate accounting group. You will work across external reporting, internal reporting, financial planning, and IT functions to support company objectives. This is a full-time, temporary position running from May through August 2027. Interns will also participate in a three-day summer event in Des Moines, which includes facility tours and networking opportunities with leadership.
What you'll do#
- Analyze, interpret, and report on financial, regulatory, and operating data.
- Support accounting close deadlines by preparing journal documentation and distributing reports.
- Prepare work papers and schedules to support SEC filings.
- Research and document accounting and SEC reporting issues.
- Present research findings and recommendations to management using graphs, charts, and reports.
- Assist with the development of the annual consolidated 10-year financial plan.
- Monitor monthly financial IT general accounting operations to ensure consistent general ledger coding.
- Review financial statements for non-registrant subsidiaries.
- Support the corporate accounting group with annual improvement initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for accounting, finance, or economics.
- Availability to work full-time during the summer of 2027.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Solid oral and written communication skills for reporting and presentations.
- Leadership qualities and a demonstrated ability to work well within a team.
- Understanding of fundamental accounting practices and principles.
