About the role#
This internship provides senior-year students the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience within an academic medical center. Working alongside experienced surgical technologists, nurses, and surgeons, interns develop the technical skills and confidence required for a career in surgical technology. This role supports a range of surgical procedures, including minimally invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic surgeries.
What you'll do#
- Prepare operating rooms for upcoming surgeries.
- Sterilize instruments and ensure all equipment is ready for use.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Maintain a sterile field and support a safe surgical environment.
- Prepare patients for procedures and support intra-operative temperature regulation.
- Handle and label specimens accurately.
- Participate as an active member of the surgical team.
- Complete required documentation within your scope of practice.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Status as a senior-year Surgical Technologist student.
- Ability to obtain Surgical Technologist certification within 6 months of graduation.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
