About the role#
As a Data Engineer Co-op at AXIS, you will work as an embedded team member on projects involving data management, engineering, database support, cloud services, and reporting. This role provides hands-on experience in enterprise technology and operational delivery within the insurance industry.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and validate data using SQL and related tools to clean and organize information.
- Assist with ETL tasks, data profiling, source-to-target checks, and pipeline documentation.
- Support the maintenance of data assets and investigate basic data issues.
- Help with supervised cloud migration, configuration, and testing activities.
- Prepare datasets, dashboards, and routine reports to support business needs.
- Maintain clear technical notes, share progress, and work alongside data engineers, analysts, and business partners.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a recognized post-secondary program with eligibility for a co-op work term.
- Studies in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Foundational experience with computational methods, data tools, scripting, or software technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down tasks into manageable steps.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A collaborative approach to working in a team environment.
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and a proactive willingness to learn.
- An interest in pursuing a full-time technology role after graduation.
Location & details#
- Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
- Work Modality: On-site (5 days per week).
- Employment Type: Full-time co-op.
- Compensation: Paid position with an expected hourly range of $15-$20 CAD.
