As a PhD Intern in the HCI & Visualization Research group, you will collaborate with mentors to define and execute a research project focused on human-computer interaction or data visualization. You will explore emerging technologies to improve design and creation processes, with potential research areas including generative AI, information visualization, interactive fabrication, and augmented or virtual reality. You will be expected to drive your project from conceptualization through to implementation and experimental validation, culminating in a research paper and presentation of your findings.
What you'll do#
- Support research and design efforts by developing software prototypes and algorithms.
- Conduct literature reviews and gather requirements to inform design decisions.
- Perform formal controlled psychological experiments to test hypotheses and measure human performance and cognition.
- Execute usability studies, ethnographic research, heuristic evaluations, task analyses, and structured interviews.
- Evaluate research findings to provide recommendations that impact business and product development.
- Author a full research paper and produce an accompanying research video.
- Present research results to both internal and external audiences.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related field, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction, with at least one academic term remaining after the internship.
- Demonstrated expertise in interactive technologies, supported by peer-reviewed publications in international venues.
- Strong technical skills in software prototyping and development.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Preferred experience includes generative AI frameworks, web development, 3D graphics programming, Unity, Unreal Engine, and development for AR/VR equipment.
