Intern, Model Based Systems Engineering

About the role#

As an intern in the Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) group, you will investigate and prototype an MBSE approach tailored for the conceptual design of small-scale mechanical assemblies. You will work within Autodesk Research to bridge the gap between research, advanced engineering, and real-world workflows, focusing on improving early design fidelity through the integration of computational geometry, AI/ML methods, and CAD/CAM workflows.

What you'll do#

• Manage your project end-to-end, including research, planning, implementation, and demonstration.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to solve critical problems across the organization.
• Combine knowledge of MBSE and AI tools to create proof-of-concept prototypes.
• Adapt MBSE processes traditionally used for large-scale systems to smaller assemblies.
• Manage incomplete, ambiguous, or evolving requirements during early concept development.
• Document research findings, prototypes, and lessons learned.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled in a full-time Master’s degree program in Systems Engineering or Model Based Systems Engineering.
• Proven track record of managing projects and challenges.
• Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including assembly design and kinematic analysis.
• Proficiency in Python and experience with software development for prototyping.
• Exposure to AI/ML concepts and experience using AI tools for development.
• Coursework or experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Industrial, or Civil Engineering.
