As an intern within the Autodesk Research team, you will investigate and prototype how AI can be leveraged to improve the design and manufacturability of mechanical assemblies. You will work alongside cross-functional teams to explore the integration of AI/ML methods in CAD/CAM, computational geometry, and systems engineering workflows to support trade-off analysis and accelerate design-to-manufacturing decision-making. You will have access to state-of-the-art workshops and manufacturing expertise at the Autodesk Toronto Technology Centre.
What you'll do#
- Manage your project end-to-end, including research, project planning, implementation, and demonstration.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to solve critical problems across the organization.
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing, design, systems engineering, and AI tools to create prototypes and proof-of-concepts.
- Manage evolving or ambiguous requirements during early concept development.
- Serve as a manufacturing reference for the team and provide guidance on products being studied.
- Document research findings, prototypes, and lessons learned.
- Work with a dedicated mentor to navigate the organization.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Robotics, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent) with a graduation date no earlier than December 2026.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with software development for prototyping.
- Experience with CAD/CAM, mechanical design, and reverse engineering workflows.
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts and experience using AI tools for development.
- Strong understanding of product design, manufacturing processes, and design-for-assembly principles.
- Working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including assembly design and kinematic analysis.
- A proven track record of managing projects and challenges.

- Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- Term: Fall 2026 (16 weeks, August 31 – December 18).
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time, paid internship.
