About the role#
As a Process Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with advanced semiconductor processing and analytical equipment. You will support the research, development, and optimization of processes used in semiconductor manufacturing. During this term, you will work alongside experienced engineers to contribute to a defined project, analyze process data, and learn how thin-film processes are developed. This role provides technical experience by applying academic concepts to a real-world semiconductor environment.
What you'll do#
- Support process engineers in the research, development, and optimization of processes including ALD, PEALD, Epitaxy, PECVD, oxidation, annealing, and curing.
- Assist with the design and execution of experiments to evaluate process performance, materials properties, and equipment capabilities.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Gain exposure to Design of Experiments (DOE) and other structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Work hands-on with semiconductor processing and analytical equipment in a laboratory or cleanroom environment.
- Gain experience with materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, AFM, XRR, XRD, TEM, SEM, and ellipsometry.
- Collaborate with process engineering, equipment engineering, and other technical teams.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and conclusions.
- Complete a defined internship project and deliver a final technical presentation summarizing your findings and recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
- Academic, laboratory, research, or project experience related to semiconductor processing, materials, chemistry, or engineering.
- Basic understanding of experimental design, data analysis, and scientific problem-solving.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a technical team.
- Eagerness to learn and gain hands-on experience in semiconductor process development.
- Experience with ALD, CVD, PECVD, Epitaxy, oxidation, annealing, thin films, or plasma processing is preferred.
- Familiarity with materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, RBS, AFM, XRR, XRD, TEM, SEM, or ellipsometry is preferred.
- Exposure to Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, or computational modeling is a plus.
- Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited degree program during the internship period.
Location & details#
- Location: Phoenix, Arizona, United States.
- Modality: On-site.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
