About the role#
This internship focuses on designing and integrating tools to accelerate safety assessments from early discovery through post-marketing. You will work with toxicologists, clinical safety scientists, and data engineering partners to build workflows that ingest molecular omics, clinical adverse event data, and preclinical models. Your work will help surface mechanistic insights and support non-clinical safety strategy.
What you'll do#
- Use and refine AI tools for data aggregation, processing, interpretation, and automated report generation across safety workflows.
- Integrate multimodal data into coherent risk scoring and weighting methods to facilitate risk-based decision making.
- Generate mechanistic off-target hypotheses and pathway-level safety rationales.
- Write clear documentation and contribute to the codebase for the Target Safety Scoring Assessment.
- Present progress and findings to stakeholders and collaborate with the team to prioritize use cases.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Currently enrolled in an MBA, Master’s, PharmD, or Ph.D. program with at least one year of graduate study completed before the internship starts.
- Degree concentration in Toxicology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer or Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis and modeling.
- Experience with Jupyter, R Markdown, SQL, Git, GitHub, and environment management.
- Coursework or projects in AI/ML, with familiarity in NLP and LLMs.
- Experience working with omics datasets and biological knowledge bases.
- Familiarity with target safety assessment, off-target mechanisms, and translational safety principles.
- Familiarity with APIs, workflow orchestration, and basic cloud literacy (AWS).
- Experience building dashboards or internal utilities.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, remote position for Summer 2027.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the program.

How to get in at Amgen
Applying early at Amgen gives you a distinct advantage because recruiters often review the first batch of candidates before the applicant pool becomes unmanageable. Intern Insider helps you stay ahead of the crowd by sending an instant alert the moment a role matching your target is published, ensuring you are among the first to submit your materials. This timing is critical when competing for positions at a large organization. You can use this extra time to refine your application rather than rushing to meet a deadline. Intern Insider surfaces the recruiters behind the company roles so you can reach out directly to ask about the position or request a referral. Connecting with a human at the firm often improves response rates compared to submitting into a general queue. This approach allows you to demonstrate your interest and qualifications to the people actually making the hiring decisions.
