About the role#
The Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) offers one-on-one peer tutoring to student-athletes in challenging courses. Tutors help students reinforce academic skills, model effective study habits, and develop learning strategies. This role is part-time, typically requiring 8 hours per week, and is open only to currently enrolled American University students.
What you'll do#
- Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions in a virtual or in-person format.
- Prepare for sessions by completing the SASP Canvas tutorial course.
- Document session content, progress, and challenges in post-session notes.
- Submit accurate time sheets on schedule.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program at American University.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- A grade of A or A- in the specific course you intend to tutor.
- Strong organizational and office management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate within a team.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A willingness to work with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (Main Campus).
- Modality: Remote and on-site options available.
- Compensation: $18.40 to $20.00 per hour.
- Term: Rolling, with renewals based on student need and enrollment data.
