About the role#
Building Controls and Services, Inc. is seeking a Controls Engineer Intern to join our team in Wichita. This role involves working under the supervision of the Controls Team Lead to support the design, programming, and installation of building automation and facility systems. You will gain hands-on experience by assisting with project documentation, sales estimating, and field installations. This is a full-time, rolling internship.
What you'll do#
- Order materials and enter database and programming information for assigned jobs.
- Create and install new software while performing troubleshooting functions.
- Support project documentation, including system layouts, submittals, network diagrams, and as-built drawings.
- Assist with sales estimating by determining task completion times and correlating labor and material pricing.
- Generate RFIs and determine when change orders are necessary.
- Participate in the installation of controls projects, including startup, certification, and project turnover.
- Provide technical assistance and customer service to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Stay current with new software and changes to existing systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering.
- Technical training and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, and operating manuals.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD drafting standards and current Windows operating systems.
- Strong mathematical ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and evaluate the urgency of situations.
- Valid driver license.
- One year of experience in engineering or systems service is preferred.
- Knowledge of automation systems, HVAC, and electrical concepts is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Wichita, Kansas.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- This position requires travel to and from job sites, including occasional overnight stays.
- You may be required to work overtime, evenings, or weekends.
