About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in an advanced materials manufacturing environment. You will work with our engineering and materials science team on ceramic and metal matrix composite technologies. The role focuses on process development, materials characterization, and continuous improvement projects.
What you'll do#
- Support the development and optimization of new materials, processes, and equipment for advanced ceramic fibers and composites.
- Assist engineers with process improvements, experimental trials, and the implementation of best practices.
- Perform materials characterization using SEM, Instron, and other analytical instruments.
- Document results and maintain material property databases.
- Follow and refine ASTM/ISO-compliant testing procedures.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret production and experimental data.
- Contribute to equipment maintenance, setup, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians on daily tasks and reporting.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate student, preferably a Junior or Senior.
- Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- High degree of honesty and personal integrity.
- Ability to work independently and within a small team.
- Basic mechanical or laboratory experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD, such as SolidWorks, or data analysis tools like Python, MATLAB, or Excel is a plus.
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR/EAR regulations and eligible to participate in programs involving Controlled Unclassified Information.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug testing is required prior to employment.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho. This position is on-site and we do not provide relocation or housing support.
- Employment: Full-time.
- Compensation: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour.
