About the role#
Youth Villages is offering a 10-week paid summer internship for students in residential treatment programs. This full-time position runs from June 1, 2027, to August 6, 2027. You will work 40 hours per week as an assistant to the treatment team, supporting youth with various behavioral and mental health needs. Initial training covers child development, trauma-informed care, and crisis de-escalation.
What you'll do#
- Act as a positive role model and help residents develop and reach individual goals.
- Participate in cottage, courtyard, and treatment team meetings.
- Help resolve conflicts using problem-solving techniques and role-playing.
- Provide immediate feedback on behavior and maintain a safe program environment.
- Plan and lead recreational activities and games.
- Facilitate group evaluations and help develop life skills groups.
- Follow the established treatment model and Re-Ed philosophy.
- Join weekly consultations with other interns and campus leadership.
- Master's level interns will assist with treatment planning and facilitate therapy sessions under supervision.
What you'll need#
- You must be entering at least your junior year of an undergraduate program.
- Bachelor's applicants should be pursuing a degree in a social services major.
- Master's applicants are required to be pursuing a degree in a social services major.
- You must commit to the full 10-week, 40-hour per week schedule.
- You are responsible for your own housing and transportation in Memphis, TN.
- Experience working with at-risk youth is preferred.
