About the role#
Westside Pet Clinic offers an externship program for DVM students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program is designed to help you build confidence and prepare for clinical practice after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team and receive mentorship throughout your rotation. We provide a stipend of $250 per week for your participation.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in all aspects of patient care. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrubbing in to surgery
- Assisting in the management of medical cases
- Providing wellness care
- Developing client communication skills
- Polishing technical skills
- Producing medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Current professional liability insurance
- Submission of a certificate of coverage
