About the role#
WesTech is looking for a Student Drafter to join our engineering team in Ames, Iowa. This is a part-time, rolling internship that offers hybrid and remote work options. You will work alongside engineers and senior designers to create technical drawings and models for water treatment equipment.
What you'll do#
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings using sketches, verbal instructions, and specifications.
- Assist with the layout and design of water treatment systems.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure designs meet project requirements and industry standards.
- Revise models and drawings based on feedback.
- Maintain organized project documentation and records.
- Participate in project meetings to help develop design solutions.
- Monitor project progress to ensure schedules are met and report potential delays.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety regulations and company standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Sophomore or Junior in a CAD-related 4-year degree program.
- Up to 1 year of experience in CAD design, including internships or co-ops.
- Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD or Solidworks.
- Understanding of drafting techniques, terminology, and engineering drawing symbols.
- Ability to apply trigonometry, geometry, and general mathematics to CAD tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A detail-oriented and collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs in warehouse areas and work at a desk.
- You may be required to be clean-shaven to use specific respiratory equipment.
- Preferred: Associate's degree, 2+ years of related work experience, or faculty recommendations.
- Preferred: Familiarity with CAD library or model management and experience with Inventor or CREO.
