The Department of Health, Human, and Veterans Services (HHVS) Summer Fellowship is an eight-week program designed to cultivate the next generation of public health leaders. Fellows are placed within HHVS operational divisions or the Director’s Office, working under the guidance of experienced public service professionals. The program aims to strengthen the public health workforce pipeline, support strategic departmental priorities, and promote equity-driven practice.
What you'll do#
- Assist with data collection, reporting, and general program support.
- Participate in fellowship activities, community outreach, and public health events.
- Support meetings, events, and projects across various HHVS divisions.
- Complete a supervised project and present findings or a final report.
- Utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and SharePoint for daily operations.
- Depending on the internship level, tasks range from administrative support and data entry to data analysis, program evaluation, and process improvement.
What you'll need#
- Level I: High school students with an interest in public health, healthcare, policy, law, social work, or related fields.
- Level II: Current community college or university students with an interest in public health, healthcare, policy, law, social work, or related fields.
- Level III: Current master’s students in public health, health administration, policy, or health sciences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic familiarity with data analysis tools.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented approach with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation for work and programming activities.
Location & details#
- Location: Wayne County, Michigan (On-site).
- Term: Summer 2026 (June 2 through July 24, 2026).
- Schedule: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
