The Coop Engineering Student will apply theory and principles of civil engineering to support the planning, design, and maintenance of county structures and facilities. This position offers hands-on experience in either the Design Office or the Field Engineering Office.
What you'll do#
- Assist design squads with project design processes and computations.
- Support construction layout for road and bridge projects, including measuring distances, operating transit or levels, and establishing vertical control.
- Perform field duties such as surveying, obtaining topography information, and hammering stakes.
- Assist with lab testing of materials, including aggregates, pre-cast concrete structures, and pipe inspections.
- Support the permit process through data entry, database updates, and public communication.
- Assist with traffic signal timings, traffic counts, and the design or review of lane markings and signage.
- Conduct research and drafting tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at an accredited college or university in a Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related degree program.
- Minimum status as a college sophomore with at least 30 completed credit hours.
- A valid State of Michigan driver's license with an acceptable, safe driving record.
- Ability to provide official transcripts and written proof of sophomore status.
