About the role#
Watson's Friends Animal Hospital offers a practical externship program for veterinary students. This program provides hands-on experience in a small animal practice setting. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain clinical experience and prepare for your career. We offer flexible rotations lasting between two and eight weeks, with a typical duration of two to three weeks. You will receive a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in daily patient care. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories.
- Performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery.
- Assisting in the management of medical cases.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Producing medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to practice standards.
