About the role#
Waters Construction Company is hiring a Project Engineer Intern for the Winter and Summer 2027 terms. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Bridgeport, Connecticut. You will work on heavy civil, road, and bridge projects while gaining mentorship from our engineering and project teams. This role involves a mix of office and field work to build your technical skills.
What you'll do#
- Assist project engineers and managers with planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction tasks.
- Support cost estimating, quantity take-offs, and the preparation of bid documents.
- Help monitor field operations, including quality control, materials tracking, and site layout.
- Prepare project documentation such as daily reports, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Participate in on-site inspections, safety reviews, and compliance checks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, survey, and QA/QC.
- Perform engineering calculations and design tasks under supervision.
- Maintain as-built drawings and project closeout deliverables.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong academic performance in structural, geotechnical, transportation, or construction coursework.
- Familiarity with engineering software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Office, and scheduling tools.
- An analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a field environment.
- A valid driver license and a willingness to travel to field sites.
