Walker Consultants is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 to join our Structural Engineering team. This role provides hands-on experience in both new design and restoration projects. You will contribute to the analysis, design, and delivery of new construction while assisting with the evaluation and rehabilitation of existing structures.
What you'll do#
- Develop and coordinate architectural and structural drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
- Prepare supporting calculations and reports.
- Perform or assist with structural analysis and detailing for superstructures, foundations, and soil or earth-retention systems.
- Build and maintain 3D BIM models in Revit for design, clash coordination, and documentation.
- Interpret and apply building codes and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with project architects and engineers to keep deliverables on track.
- Review construction-phase documents, submittals, and shop drawings.
- Conduct site visits and construction observation, prepare field reports, and participate in condition assessments of existing facilities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills for interacting with clients, consultants, and architects.
- Reliable access to a personal vehicle for the duration of the internship.
- Knowledge and experience using Revit is preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a passion for designing new structures and preserving existing ones.
