About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will support the daily operations of our pharmacy while gaining hands-on experience in a retail setting. This role focuses on patient care, medication management, and supporting the pharmacy team to ensure efficient service. You will work on-site in Portland, Maine, in a part-time, paid capacity.
What you'll do#
- Provide pharmacy consulting services to customers, including medication usage, side effects, and preventive healthcare.
- Handle the compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications.
- Assist the pharmacy manager with workflow, inventory management, and financial performance.
- Perform clinical and wellness services, such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness screenings.
- Engage with patients to resolve issues and answer questions about their health needs.
- Maintain proficiency in pharmacy systems like Intercom Plus, registers, and automation tools.
- Process insurance claims accurately and follow up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions.
- Support the team by assisting with staff training, promoting teamwork, and maintaining a positive pharmacy environment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or a plan to obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) degree from an accredited institution.
- Ability to obtain pharmacist licensure from the state Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of hire.
- Current certification as an immunizer, or a willingness to become certified within 90 days of hire.
