About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Duane Reade, you will support the pharmacy team while gaining hands-on experience in a retail environment. You will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to assist with patient care, prescription processing, and daily pharmacy operations. This role focuses on learning pharmacy policies and customer service standards to prepare for a future career as a pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy, including entering, processing, and dispensing prescriptions.
- Help with patient counseling and health services, such as blood pressure monitoring and medication therapy management.
- Engage with customers by greeting them, answering questions, and resolving issues.
- Handle cash register transactions and sales.
- Manage inventory tasks including ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy department.
- Handle incoming telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention.
- Report any prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a school of Pharmacy program.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- A willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

- This is an on-site, part-time position based in Jackson Heights, New York.
- The role is paid and follows a rolling term.
