About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern at Duane Reade, you will gain hands-on experience in a retail pharmacy setting. You will work under the supervision of a pharmacist to learn the daily operations of the pharmacy and assist in providing patient care. This role focuses on developing your skills in prescription processing, customer service, and pharmacy compliance.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team with prescription entry, processing, filling, and dispensing.
- Support pharmacists in delivering patient care services, including medication therapy management and patient counseling.
- Engage with customers by greeting them, answering questions, and resolving issues.
- Handle inventory management tasks like ordering, unpacking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
- Register sales at the cash register and manage cash handling duties.
- Maintain the pharmacy department's cleanliness and organization.
- Report any prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
- Handle incoming telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention.
- Complete all required training and stay updated on pharmacy developments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a school of Pharmacy program.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- A willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to follow state, federal, and company regulations, including the Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
